Magecraft usually renders the how-dunnit of the crime almost impossible. A skilled mage can easily kill someone even inside a closed room. So usually the motive, or the whydunnit, is used to find the killer.

However, in a place where the usual motive is 'the Crafters forced us to', it's quite hard to figure out anyone through motive alone.

And with so many people in this place and my own lack of abilities, it becomes pretty much impossible to solve these cases. [ he sighs ] Now we may never find out who killed those three.

Ion and 2B both acted like all they needed was a confession in order to kill someone, too. This is just too cruel.
